Cancer Conquered! My 1st Full Marathon Run!

On August 16, 2010, I finished my 1st ever 42.2k run. It's not an official organized event for anyone who wanted to join. There was only one runner, and that's me.

The aim of this activity was to earn enough funds to help my friend's dad who is battling cancer one day at a time.

So many people supported this personal event of mine and I thank you all... And yes it's safe to say that at least for now, my friend's dad conquered cancer.

You can read the blog entry by Owee Salva about my run by clicking the link below...

And here's the record from my watch...

Race Conquered! Milo Marathon '10!

Copy of DSCI0098

(12.17.10)

I have been out for a long time and this might be my last official race. At least, not for a very long time. Anyway, I did so well in this race I broke my PR for 21k.

I'll still be running and updating this blog but I just can't fit race events in my schedule. This blog isn't just about joining running events anyway :)

Here's my record of this run last July 4, 2010 (if I'm not mistaken)

Race Conquered! Epic Relay!

(07.08.10)

This is not just about the Epic Relay but getting through rough times, facing challenges in life and finishing strong.

A few weeks before this event, I went through hard times, it was just too difficult for me to even attend practices. I decided it would be better if I practiced alone. It was better till running itself became difficult. I begged before God to allow me to find a replacement for myself in the race then I got the news that I/we were already registered and replacing a runner will not be easy.

I still decided to continue and join the race only because I gave my word. I was spiritually broken but I’m physically fit so “I guess I can still at least, finish the race” that’s what I said to myself.

MY 1ST LEG

Now about my performance, my team was included in the second heat. (2nd set of teams to be released at 6am), I decided to just run the leg. And after a few hundred meters I asked myself “how can you just run your first leg when you can do better?” then I decided to win. From that moment on, I lead… I never looked back, I just kept on going. The police escort in front of me made me feel so good! It felt like I was the most important person at that moment it time! Thing is… I was! I felt so tired but I kept on running, I kept on telling myself “This is what I prepared for” “This is what I’ve been dragging myself to just to practice” “Fuck it! “Fuck it!

Van 2 went pass me, cheering me on, witnessing my lead and the game face I was wearing.

A few kilometers before the exchange point of runners, tears fell from my eyes as I saw views of yacht resting on blue waters that reflected the sky. Mixed emotions were running through my whole body. I felt so proud and limitless while being angry and fueled with angst and it’s all happening while I’m being surrounded by beauty. How can one handle that?

At around 150 meters away, the police man said your almost there! Voices of my group (Van 1) cheering for me validated what the policeman said. It made me more determined to run even faster! I swore I was going to seal any chances other runners might have to get near me.

Here are photos of me sealing the deal! Thanks to Aldwin Aspillera for these, He’s a great photographer, even greater when he’s taking my pics… How can he go wrong?

Finally, I got to where the exchange is, I passed the baton to the runner 2 (Carlo) and he quickly gave his best to run his 1st leg that later on we realized was uphill!

That’s how my 1st leg went, 2 more legs to go!

MY 2nd LEG

No here’s when I died… :) At 3:30pm on Saturday, I met my teammate Narod at the peak of Mt. Samat in Bataan, He was the best runner of our team and the last runner to finish the 1st set of runs. He finished really strong considering he got the hardest track to run, it was uphill and I doubt I could finish that 10k uphill had I been the one to do it. Now, he was there, baton was passed on to me and I’m about to start the 2nd leg of our run. My first run was a success; this leg should not fall short compared to my first, that’s what I said,

So on to the race! You think uphill was insane? Try running 10k downhill! The road was so steep, even a wooden block will roll down that wicked road! I couldn’t decide weather to let gravity pull me or not, coz if I did, then I’ll end up tripping over face first and God knows what my face would look after! So I settled keeping my steps small, making sure I had good traction and wont trip head first! Remember, it had just rained when I started running.

So I went on running then I went pass a runner whose teammate finished ahead of Narod, then ran a bit more till a runner from behind me overtook and gave me a salute! That point I just gave in to the idea that he was simply faster than me… till a few kilometers later, he started looking back at me, stopped then drank while back pedaling! I didn’t know what he was up to but I felt challenged! His teammates gave him water after a few kilometers and right after a turn my team also did the same thing, but I didn’t stop to drink! I said “May hahabulin ako” Then I began increasing my speed and my strides though I was already running flat-footed due to exhaustion! Just imagine how the sound of my every stride alarmed this runner that I was getting closer and closer and closer!? It was threatening! Haha!

To cut the long story short, I was able to catch up! Then I invited him to pace me, then he said “ok lang mauna ka na” hehe! Now, there were some uphills too, and I used that to increase the distance between us, I ran even faster uphill knowing most of the runners will decrease their speed when going up. Now I began looking back to check where he was, then later on when I checked again, he was gone… :D I now hear my teammates cheering for me and again, I ran even faster to get to them! When I saw them eating halo-halo, I went passed the officials and went straight to anyone who had halo-halo! Then a race official had to go to me and asked for my race number and took the baton and passed on to the next runner! Next thing I knew, no one gave me halo-halo, I was sitting on the front seat, dead tired. Maybe seconds after that… I was in coma!

Here’s a pic of me taken by a great photographer Estan Cabigas who was my classmate and now is also into running! This picture was taken 2 kilometers after my start point. I must admit, I look so HOT in this pic! Thanks Estan!

3rd and LAST LEG (Challenge not over YET!)

12 midnight, I knew Narod was on his way to the place where he should meet me, apparently, the station was transferred to a new venue and he had a hard time looking for it, he arrived a little over 1am and organizers decided they should start the last leg of the race at 3am so every runner in every team can start all at the same time…

I had to ask Aldwin to ride his bike with me while I run, he was a big help especially at times when I wanted to give up…

Now, I’m heading to Zambalez…

I declared to Aldwin that my aim was not to walk even for a minute even if I was so tired and my feet were cramping… The whole Zambalez could hear my strides! No exaggeration, I as literally marching my way to the exchange point! I just had to finish this leg the best way I can. And so I did. I just heard my mates in the exchange point cheering me on and there! I did it! Now its time for me to cheer them on too!

I never really had the chance to thank them one by one but here’s my chance to do it! And in writing! In alphabetical order!

Aldwin
I never thought you’ll be my at all! 1st time I saw you, I thought you were cocky… I still think you are, but I discovered you’re more than that! You’re a big guy (pun intended) with a big heart to help out gay guys in distress! Like me! Biking with me while I ran my last leg was something I will forever be thankful for, I was already in autopilot mode and I wouldn’t have finished my last leg without your help, keeping me up and steadfast. Thanks so much! I’m looking forward to trying out biking with you soon!

Ben
I’m so glad I had a little chat with you about Fil-Ams in Olongapo, the conversation was the typical kind of talk, but what made it special is that it gave me a glimpse of who you are and how you think. I like what I saw Ben, it’s very inspiring.

Carl
Thanks so much for taking the chance in doing some practice runs with me, I know, that you know, that we have huge differences but you didn’t allow that to prevent you from adding me up as one of your friend! NAX! I admire you for being someone who’s not judgmental, someone who does not discriminate and willing to take chances! You are a free spirit! You just have to realize it! You are who you’ve always wanted to be! You’ve always been :)

Charles (Koyang/RBC)
I will never forget how you took care of me each and every time I finish a leg, I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to give back the favor. You did not just attend to my needs after my runs; you made sure I was alive! Thanks so much for running the “extra” mile, I see you finish your runs with confidence and conviction. Like what you told me. “We’ve come a long way” indeed we have Koyang. I’m proud and honored to be your RB! And most of all, your bespren!

Faye
We never really had the time to get to know each other especially in this race, but I feel so comfortable in your presence. I feel like I’ve known you for years. I guess it is our mutual love for music that keeps u connected, I hope I can be your friend and vice versa… I’m excited to get to know you more 

Martin
Since I learned that you’re from Marikina too, I was ecstatic! I finnaly, I know someone from the city I grew up in! I’m so glad I met you when I attended some ultimate Frisbee beginner’s nights, I’m also looking forward to playing with you in the future! Nagagalingan ako sayo grabe! You deserve to catch my beautiful throws! At tuturuan mo pa ako mag basketball! Don’t forget!

Mitch
You’re the one who showed the greatest improvement, it wasn’t too long ago when you could hardly finish a 3 Kilometer run. And in the relay, I witnessed you ran that 11 kilometer road with full confidence and style! Not to mention “under the unforgiving sun!” Mitch, you were my hero in this event, I will always look back to this race and be inspired by you. Keep it up!

Narod
You are one of the most sensitive straight guys I have ever known, not to mention helpful when it comes to sports or just about anything at all! I never felt uncomfortable whenever I tell you stories about my personal life. You serve as one of my inspirations in life, yu stay strong no matter what comes to your life; I feel that you are ready to face anything that life presents to you. Stay the same will you?

Owee
I love you and you know why… I almost quit but you kept me holding on, I’m almost done running away and when I’m through with it, let’s party ok? I hope I inspired you on how I performed in this particular event, not just about the running, but in being strong and driven. I love you so much.

Richard
Chard!!! I only had around 30 minutes of bonding time with you, remember when we were talking about photography and bikes when we were about to leave our inn? I leaned so much about you; I hope get to know you more, you are an interesting person and hope we could be good friends!

So there you go! I know it’s not enough to read about it, you readers of my blog should try it out to know how it feels. I’d like to invite you to next year’s relay. And I also would like to invite you to run with us “RodRunners!!!” Photo taken by Richard!

Here are random pics taken by my teammates! And watch the videos at the end!

Race Congquered! The Amazing Kidney Race!

(03.13.10)

Last week (03.07.10) I my 1st 15k for the Amazing Kidney Race. Though I was so disappointed the race started very late, (6:30am as supposed to 5:45am) I'm just glad I made it to the cut-off time for me to earn a finisher medal. Cut-off time was 1:45 and I finished at 1:44+

I never got the chance to even wear my medal coz I was so in a hurry for work! It's my second for this year and I love having them!

I just have to mention that the race were flocked by runners who have bubble butts and are wearing tights! I see runners in tights all the time (both men and woman) but they don't always have nice tight butts! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't wear tights if you don't have the buns for it. All I'm saying is that I appreciate those extra lumps.

WHO CARES ABOUT MY OPINION ANYWAY? you can say :)

Butt, I mean BUT yeah, this event had full of 'em protruding butts!

Race Conquered! Condura run for the Dolphins '10

(02.07.10)

Yesterday was my second try to run a half mary... the medal I'm wearing may not mean I won the race, but I won against myself. I finished the race maybe 12 minutes earlier that my 1st record and I did it while trying to suppress the urge to relieve myself (natatae ako for short!). The medal also is a validation of my hard work and perseverance. Even before I started running I already felt good about this day, I knew it was going to be a really good one for me.

Congratulations also to RBC for finishing strong! He too worked hard for this and all the efforts paid off. He finished the race in just 2:49:22 and my non official time is 2:48 something.

And to our avatar's (Anizo & Lem) fans! here they are relaxing after a long race! again, they finished the race gracefully as expected!

So we just let our "Avatars" Anizo and Lem do the posing for us and yeah, they did really well!

Ok, so now, RBC and I finally reached the 4Th and final installment of our run! I was not able to run for 2 consecutive times but owel...

This race, I decided to just enjoy and run the 5kilometer distance without pressuring myself of beating my record and shit like that! I was running with RBC the whole time! swabe lang talaga! ang sarap bumalik sa chilax na run ulit! RBC din chilax lang tumakbo no pressure! naks!

It was so much fun! now race certificates and bibs are piling up and I feel the need to organize them! OCD again I know!no plans of running for the next 2 weeks so just stay tune!

Market! Market Power Mile Run Year 2 Race Conquered! (1 of 4)

Funny, funny day of May 17, 2009! first, I got the worst mosquito bites since RBC was late and you know that time of day when mosquitoes bunch up and attack one last time right before the sunrise, right?

So everything else were chain reactions of RBC's being late, when we arrived at the parking lot of Market Market where we met his new recruit (Patrick), we heard an announcement that the 2 mile run will start in 30 seconds! we wondered why the 2 milers were released before the 5 milers were since RBC thought we still made it on time, so we were taking are time strolling looking for Patrick, I asked someone if the runners for the 5 miller were released, and he said "not yet" (later on we realized that he too was late and thought the runners have not been released yet, ...err duh!? my bad I asked!)

So clock was ticking and I decided to ask the organizers and was told that the 5 mile runners were released 5 minutes before the 2 milers were and that as we speak, 30 minutes had elapsed...

We then just went ahead and jogged around till we saw a sign that said "5miles this way"... that's the time we agreed to just follow the route and finish the race! Sayang that RBA was not able to join us since he's still adjusting to his new job yeah yeah... may printed name and time results paman din sa certificate na binigay haha!

it was our first time to join a race that is categorized in miles and 5 miles would be equivalent to 8 kilometers... we finished 8k in 1 hour and 30+ minutes! haha!

our official time will follow soon so be sure to stay tuned for more about sports and running, please visit my blog I'm running for my life, that's http://imrunningformylife.blogspot.com/ or simply click THIS!

BTW, this is the 1st of 4 installments (running event) that RBC planned for us to join! as for our new mate, nice to have you on board Patrick!

next race: 3rd Auto REVIEW Run for Road Safety & Courtesy! c u there!

Botak’s Paa-Tibayan Race Congquered!

This Morning (May 10 '09) I ran 5k with RBC and RBA, it was fun! but I realized I was slower than last week at the (Marikina Advocacy Run) 5k seems to be just the right distance for me, just when I'm starting to tire, here comes the finish line!

My unofficial time is 28min according to RBC, but I'm looking forward to know my record time. Still no pics of RBA, nakalimutan ko eh! nako! RBA e-titiming ko talaga na pagod na pagod ka! haha!

in the meantime, here's the poster for the event! BTW, the singlet here is so cool!

Marikina Advocacy Run Conquered!

It was not my intention not to invite you guys to this event, I was too busy working on my final school requirements and thank God its oh so done! So I was just looking for something to refresh my mind... I went to Marikina Sports Park for my regular 4k run and I saw this running group who organized their own event called "Marikina Advocacy Run"(May 3, 2009) I approached them and asked for the details, immediately called running buddy Charles (RBC) and we registered for it!

Eto pa! RBC's bro (Andrew) wanted to join our running addiction too! So what better way to welcome a new running mate than to make him run 5k straight on his first trial! Baptism of fire, it definitely is!

We all agreed to run a 5k distance since non of us were in top shape and good thing that we chose a short distance to run since I was having a really bad case of LBM this day and also it was good that its within the city where I live! Also the reason why I was not able to take some pics! damn LBM!

I so promise to take pics on my next run! this Sunday in Fort Makati! will blog about it soon! maybe tomorrow hehe! BEWARE Andrew! I will take pics of you in your most awkward moment! that's when you've finished the race and looking like your gonna have a heartattack!

Meanwhile, I'll just show you the poster and the jersey design of the event! I'm still looking forward to knowing our time for this, i never had a record of any of my two official 5k runs, damn!

VSO Bahaginan’s Kabahagi Ako FUNdraising RUN For the beefit of VSO’s PEACE Project in Mindanao

OK, so normally I would blog about an upcoming event that I wanna join in, but this particular running event is done before I can even invite people to join. So the event is called "VSO Bahaginan’s Kabahagi Ako FUNdraising RUN" For the benefit of VSO’s PEACE Project in Mindanao, so who's my partner in crime? Koya Char-lez of course! Imagine he ran 10 kilometers! yeah! Go KOYA! and his official time? 1:07:33 baybeh!!! I had a hard time running since my left knee is aching from last saturday's run... (my regular 4k run) and now it's even worse. and no its not an excuse that i was not able to break my previews record (which was 1:05:20) now I'm .39 of a second slower... darn! (my offical time for thisa event? 1:05:59)

on the brighter side... Koya and I had the best photo op AT THE PARKING LOT!!! Ü

Korean #1

Korean #2!!! (Korean na namumula! haha!)

here's the poster of the event!

special thanks to http://runrio.com/ for the details and organizing the event... it was well organized I must say!!! (still find that Isuzu Halloween run crappy!)

Halloween 5k run result! (took me ages to blog about this)

So it's been almost a week since the the Halloween run and I'm not excited (it was supposed to be my first 5k run) to post about it since i was kinda disappointed on how it was organized 1st, there was no official place where we can leave our bags, thanks to manong guard of ROX for taking the responsibility of looking after it. 2nd, I'm not so sure if they made it clear that those who'd finish the last lap should pass through those guys asking for the runner's number for them to reacord your time (disclaimer: I might be wrong since I din't hear the whole briefing to begin with) 3rd the guys who gives out those plastic straws are terrible! I even had to just pick up those that are on the ground.

AND to top it all of, I had blisters just before I finished my 2nd lap! darn! BUT, I still would like to thank Isuzu for coming up with something like that, it was really nice to run on a Halloween night! and also the people (runners themselves) who made the event worth going to, you guys rock! running 5 kilometers in costume!? GALENG!

lastly, congratulations to my friend, Charles Custodio for finishing his very first 5k run! yehey!!! he is now officially DEVIRGINIZED!!! from now on we'll be running buddies!

(photo taken last Nov. 1 in Montalban Rizal cemetery.)

I am Kueen of the road! (result of Adidas King of the Road '08)

Yes you read it right! I'm no Queen, I'm no King, therefore I'm "Kueen" and I conquered the Adidas King of the Road last Saturday October 11nth! I finished the 10K run with the time of 1:05:20! thats 2 minutes faster than my last run! yey! and I was the 631st runner to cross the finish line out of 1468 runners who finished the 10k race. but I think alsmost 2000 registered for 10K.

Here's what I got from the race, (aside from burning a million calories)

Here's how I looked. HOLY COW!!!

results for 10K and 21K may be viewed here.

no results yet for 5K, will keep you posted when I have it.
