My Ondoy Experience...

I know its been exactly 3 weeks today, but I still wanna share my adventure :) so here it goes...

I never thought I'd be experiencing mother nature's wrath this bad ever in my life... 10 long years ago was when my family first experienced flooding inside our house because of typhoon "Olga" in August 1, 1999. It is the same typhoon that made the Cherry Hill Subdivision fall. Flood from the street went in and and I was soaked in flood that reached my crotch from 7pm to 11am the next day... still it was not a match to what typhoon Ondoy brought to us, this time flood inside the house was up to my chest and I was soaked from 8am to 4pm the next day.

I'm just very glad my family is alive as well as my pets. My sisters in Makati took us to their place and gave us decent shelter for our whole family. The house was just a studio type condominium, and took all of us in... me, my parents 3 cats and a dog. We were cramped up but we were dry and comfortable.

here are just random details of what happened that night. I might not be able to remember all of it so I'm just going to leave you with pictures (I took almost at the peak of the flooding) after the acknowledgments.

  • Pets are in the 2nd level of our double deck safe and sound.
  • Mom and Nanay Thelma were at the back of our house where it was elevated.
  • Dad sat on our aquarium stand and slept the night away.
  • I was all over the place making sure everyone is safe.
  • I took some pictures using my first digital camera and it too was destroyed by the flood.
  • All my watercolor paintings were destroyed.
  • Took pictures again using my prosumer and put it in a higher place right after.
  • The next day,my boss went to pass by our house to check us out and brought food and clean clothes.
  • A friend from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society also visited and gave us some food.
  • Sisters came, brought us food and forced us to evacuate in their house.
FACT...

"3 days before the typhoon, I was going to write a letter to my parents and sisters, asking them to clean the house for my birthday... throw or give away the piles of old clothes taking over the WHOLE HOUSE!!! now, there is SPACE!!! nothing left after the flood! It was just the right reason to give them away! and we gave away a whole lot TODAY! Indeed, be careful what you wish for, because I got my wish 2 months before my birthday!!!"

Special thanks to the following:

Best friends a.k.a Family: Jem and Tonki, Aissa and Migs, Triska and Toto

The cats that rescued my family (Anniversary Post)

On February 2, 2009, I heard crying kittens very near the are where my computer is which is also near the windows, hoping their mom gave birth outside our house, I called our girl to check where exactly where the mom and the kittens are so we can give food and water. It was after 30 minutes of looking till we figured out the mom delivered in our ceiling.

On February 14, 2009 at 7 am, I was on my way to manila for a shoot and noticed a small cute cry outside our kitchen, I went out and I immediately saw a cute kitten that I instantly named "Una" (first) there was no question that me and my family will adopt her so given that, the name "Una" really fits since she's will be our first official cat... we've had stray cats before that my parents feed. but because of our previous dog companion, they just choose not to stay... by the way, I took a picture of what I saw and here it is!

Thought that was a surprise? wait till you hear this... after a long day of tiring but fun shoot with Ateng Faye... I arrived here at home at 4:30pm, only to find out that there's 3 of them! yes 3 kittens! first I didn't notice since they all blended in the stuff that was about to be thrown away! but yeah! my count was correct! there's 3 of them! to show you how they exactly look like when I saw hem, again I took a picture!

Here's a closer view!
From then on I immediately called them "Val Len, & Tina" (L-R btw, the cat on the right was formerly "Una") since I saw them on valentines day... It was so hard because first, I knew I was going to be the one in charge of taking care of them even though I had no experience on feline parenting hehe! (I was up for the cahllenge though!)

The very first weekend they spent with us as an official part of the family, one of my siters excitedly drove her way just to see the latest members of our household! (or new owners!?!!? hehe!)

my sister suggested to revice the name a littlebit and drop a syllable, change "Tina" to "Tine" since she was the only one who had a 2 syllable name... ok then I said. and here are the pics of that fun fun day playing with them! consider it our first family day!

Playing, playing, playing!
this is "VAL"
"Len"
("TINE" had the first solo pic above so its just right to give this space for the 2 others! hehe!)

I forgot to say that Val was the most fierce of the 3, she never let me carry her without her hissing me into fright. Till now she still is the most ferocious... she tries to drive away other cats beiliving the space now her own... it wasn't too long though before we earned her trust and win her out of hissing towards us when we go near her or try to carry / feed her...

Again, to others, Val was the most masungit! even to other people! even to the vet that performed their operation! yes I had them operated (spay) just last June, preventing them to heat and finally leave our house in search for a mate and produce dozens of babies.

Here are some of the pictures I took when I had them spayed...

(Len getting fixed 06.05.09)

They are now full time indoor cats since May 21, 2009, bought them a litter box, baskets and a whole lot of rags to sleep on and play with! or should I say murder! haha!

Going back to my family, I never thought we'd have pets again since Cha-cha died... My family decided not to have pets again beacuse it was just hard to face the fact that they will cross the rainbow bridge in the future no matter how much love you give. death is just simply unavoidable.

3 long months of mourning had past and here came along 3 kittens that literally fell from above and saved me and my family from further depression and utmost sadness.

to date, Val, Len and Tine are the love of our lives... they taught us not to be afraid to adopt new pets and love again.

On September 20, my blog will turn a year old! so watch out for my anniversary post... I have also decided to turn this blog away from just talking about running (the sport). The reason is simply because I'm also eager to share / write about the things I encounter while I'm busy "running" my life!

  • being an art and music teacher etc...

Hope you still continue to support my blog now that I'm throwing in different kinds of topics BESIDES running...

Thanks so much!
FYI: if I get lucky (it wont rain) RBC and I might run some km's tonight!
